Little Known Blogger Shares Small Flashlight
by on 1/8/2010 9:31:16 AM

Floating in the blogosphere is best when friends stop by. I’ve only been out here five days, but by inviting the world to drop in, I’ve become aware that most of my friends get nervous exploring this terra incognita.  Me too, but I am so curious about this place that I have stood up to my technology terrors.  The crannies and codes I had feared turned out to be the portal into a magic land.
You have gotten this far and found our virtual salon - do you want to seize the day (as the fish on my shed door in the photo recommends) and put together a Blog Post of your own? The Virtual Salon will be hosting guest bloggers! Whether or not you are aware of it, you are so creative and I’ll bet there is a lot you would like to write about.    Most of you have been letting me know in private that you would like to blog.  Here is a chance to try it - but it needs to be related to your life as an artist or lover of art. You can include photos.
If you want to share your ideas with me privately, send me an email: Lillian@rockfire.com .  If you want to share your idea with the other Salonistas, click on Comments just under the title of this post.

Questions: What do you want to rant about concerning art?  What do you want to share about making your art or loving art with the others who come here?  Does it inspire you to think of writing a post?

Tavern on the Green Auction in New York City- “Hey, that’s MY mural, yes THAT one, the one of Central Park with over a hundred horses!”

Any parent who has ever jumped up, waved their arms and wanted to shout from the bleachers, “That’s my kid!” will know how I am feeling.  The child, especially if an adolescent, will probably be embarrassed.   That’s the relationship that I have with my beloved Tavern on the Green mural. It will be sold off to the highest bidder and go to a new home – my own offspring – without any parental input. I want to go and shout out from the sidelines - but the hitch is, it isn’t mine.

How do you handle your relationships with your artwork once you no longer possess it? Do you hover over old photos now and then? To you ever want to meddle with its current life?

HI, I will stop by in a few weeks. Technology terrors are like rats and snakes; you can kill them.

Oh, Lillian!

Maybe I'll blog "one day" ...but for now, I'm too busy! I'm painting, painting, painting and getting ready for my shows. Plus, I've alrady been writing for MY book...I've decided to title it, "I'm Still Here!"

Things will calm down a little after March. I promised my husband I would clean out the studio and basement after my Feb show! This time, I really have to! ~sigh~

I agree, share more art work. Love it all, but how about some of Lake Champlain and NYC. Also agree the blog is a brave thing to do.

Hi, Lillian!

I am sitting here today gleaning what I can about the Haitian EarthQuake that happened while we were in class today...my heart is broken for them. I realize I can't dwell on it for my health's sake, but when Janet Runkles did the Offerings Show at my church, she had a photographer show some photos of orphans she had taken at an orphanage in northeastern Haiti. One in particular really captured my heart. It is of a beautiful little girl with the BIGGEST smile on her face...a sparkling little jewel amongst the sad faces...It is the NEXT painting I plan to start. I have been ruminating about how I plan to begin the process on it for weeks now. My question of the day is, "Do you know of any organizations where people donate artistic talents to help others in need? Thanks!

Hey, Lil!

Maybe you should have a little section in your blog where people can ask you questions and then you can share your vast knowledge!

Thanks for all your comments!

Robert: I love the idea of technology terrors being like rats and snakes - it gives me courage.

Hannah and Jean: Working on the website is new territory for me, and I chose to start with this blog, but I expect that within a week I will have more images up. Tahnks for the encouragement - it means so much to me.

Margaret: Good luck with your writing and studio cleaning.
The concept of your Haitian painting is inspirational, and it would be a good one to use in a benefit, but I don't know of any place to contact. You are alert and open, so keep looking.
You asked about a place to leave questions for me: just ask them here in the comments section.
